Common Questions

Quick troubleshooting

The Mac companion is not discovered Make sure the Mac and iPhone are on the same local network and that iPhonotype Studio is open. If Wi-Fi handoff fails, you can still transfer packages manually or use the Mac-side import paths.
The app asks for camera, microphone, or photo access Camera access is used for capture workflows, microphone is used for root video capture, and Photo Library access is used only when you import existing images into supported workflows.
Local Network permission appears Local Network is used only to discover the optional Mac companion for model sync and package handoff. The iPhone app can still be used on its own without desktop sync.
GPS / location access appears Location is optional and is only used when you want to save scan coordinates or GPS-derived identifiers in session metadata.
The desktop app opens with no scans on a different Mac Your library is stored locally per user account. Existing scans will appear on the same Mac and macOS account where they were created or imported, but a different Mac starts with an empty local library until packages are transferred.
Which files help when reporting a bug? If possible, send the package identifier, the exact workflow name, and one screenshot of the error state. On macOS, mention whether the issue came from 3D Analysis, Benchmark, root analysis, or Above-ground Phenotyping.

Permissions

Why the app may ask for access

Camera Used for plant imaging, 3D capture, tray workflows, reflectance tools, and supported root capture modes.
Microphone Used only when a workflow records video with narration or audio, such as supported root capture walkthroughs.
Photo Library Used only if you choose to import existing images into supported capture or phenotyping workflows.
Local Network Used only to discover the optional Mac companion on the same network for local package handoff and model sync.
Location Optional. Used only when you choose to save geolocated metadata for field capture sessions.

App Review

Reviewer and first-launch summary

The iPhone app does not require an account to test core workflows. Reviewers can create a local experiment, open a capture template, and save sessions entirely on-device.

The Mac companion is optional and is not required for iOS App Review. If the reviewer does not grant Local Network permission or does not have access to a Mac companion, the iPhone app remains usable on its own.
